Биография автора
Oleksij Poltorac’kyj (1905-1977) was a Ukrainian writer, literary critic and scriptwriter. He graduated from Kyїv University in 1926 and became the editor of the Odesa Film Studio in 1931. He was primarily known as the leading theoretician of Ukrainian Futurism. Few people were aware of Poltoratskyi’s contributions as a film critic, as he wrote about films under the pseudonym Ol. Ozerov. His articles became a part of the collections Zvenigora and Odynadcyatyj, where prominent figures in cinema reflected on the films of the same name. His book Studies for Cinema Theory (1930) is a collection of Poltorackyj’s theoretical articles about this emerging art form. After World War II, he worked in leading Ukrainian journals, serving as the chief editor of “Ukraina” from 1948 to 1952, and as editor of “Vitchyzna” from 1952 to 1958. He continued his editorial work at “Vsesvit” from 1958 to 1971.
