Mikhail Alekseevskii is an anthropologist, folklorist, Director of the Centre for Urban Anthropology Strelka KB. He graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of the Russian State University for the Humanities, Department of philology in 2001. After obtaining his diploma, he entered the postgraduate school at the Marques Block Center for Historical Anthropology (Russian State University for the Humanities) and, in 2005, he defended his PhD thesis Food and Meal in Rituals and Ritual Folklore of the Russian North. He participated in a number of scientific expeditions in Russia, Ukraine, Latvia and Estonia, studying the socio-cultural characteristics of modern cities. Author of over 80 scientific publications (urban anthropology and contemporary folklore). Since 2014 he is a full member of the International Society of Applied Anthropology, head of the Centre for Urban Anthropology Strelka KB.
